WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Congressman Paul A. Gosar (R-AZ) hosted an "Entrepreneurship Panel Discussion and Roundtable” and networking opportunity for local small business owners, self-starters and the public. With entrepreneurship at a 17 year low, the event was an opportunity for residents to learn about the resources available to them to start a business, and for local entrepreneurs to share their concern about the federal regulations that are holding back their businesses and job growth.
"As the nation reels from the unemployment numbers released today, it is important we realize that small businesses hold the key to economic recovery,” said Congressman Gosar. "Local self-starters and business owners cannot effectively create jobs and revitalize the economy when bogged down by the federal government’s increasing regulations and burdensome taxes. As today’s participants demonstrated, Arizonans are resilient, creative and hard-working, but their success requires the federal government to get out of the way.”
Panel members and those in attendance shared ideas on how to boost employment in the United States. "Only one percent of all companies in the US sell internationally. Of that one percent, 80 percent sell to only one country. We need to create growth in the export sector to create and sustain jobs,” explained Kristian Richardson of the US Commercial Service.
With unemployment remaining above eight percent for 43 consecutive months, Congressman Gosar has hosted a series of roundtables this summer to share ideas on the best ways to empower local businesses to create jobs. As a small business owner, Congressman Gosar believes that together through an open dialogue we can find solutions. To see a list of the panel participants please, click here.
