Health Insurance for ASBA Members and their employees Like the rest of us, you are probably finding the healthcare scene confusing and frustrating. Many have received cancellation notices or increases of as much as double and triple your previous year's premiums. Even ASBA's own Cigna program for members has been cancelled because it did not comply with the new Affordable Care Actrequirements. The good news is that we were aware of the impending changes several months ago and began searching for a suitable replacement health plan for our member businesses, their families and their employees.
Meritus Health Partners is a home-grown, non-profit, cooperative health insurance company based in Tempe, Arizona. They have put together a health plan specifically for small business in Arizona. The Arizona Small Business Association has partnered with Meritus and will be offering a robust health insurance plan tailored to fit businesses of any size. The doctor network is the largest in the state and the plans vary in degree of coverage. Additionally, your employees can take advantage of the plan even if you don't offer health insurance through your company. Just pass this information on to them, and we will take it from there.

State by State Comparison of Rates If there is a silver lining for Arizona and the Affordable Care Act, Arizonans have the lowest rates west of the Mississippi and the 3rd lowest overall in the entire country. The numbers look very different depending on where you live and what type of plan you buy. For the second lowest Silver plan, the average premium ranges from $192 per month in Minnesota to $516 per month in Wyoming. Across all states, the weighted average for the second lowest Silver plan is $328 per month. For Arizona, the average rate will be $250. The numbers in three states (Kentucky, Massachusetts and Hawaii) have yet to released. Below is a more detailed state-by-state cost comparison.
Each state uses a similar "age curve" to determine how much more older consumers pay. In most cases, a 60-year-old would pay rates that are roughly three times higher than what the 27-year-old would pay.
