Representing 97-percent of business in the state, Arizona’s small businesses fuel our economy, and so it is no wonder the Arizona Small Business Association (asba) annual meeting celebrates great accomplishments, volunteers, and looks forward at 2011.

Tuesday morning, asba introduced new members of its Board of Directors, new staff and recognized key leadership including its board member of the year, corporate partner of the year, strategic partner of the year, volunteer of the year and employee of the year.

"Persevering the current economic times is an accomplishment for all of our members and partners, which elevates the significance of this annual celebration,” says Donna Davis, CEO of asba. "The coming year is about renewed business growth and strengthening the state and local economies as we emerge with a more supportive pro-business environment.”

State economists forecast 2011 to continue post-recession job growth with much of the new jobs created within Arizona’s small businesses. Networking, business match-making and educational opportunities provided to asba members will be instrumental in helping small business owners rebound and emerge stronger.

Ensuring resources provide the added value businesses need, Davis welcomes the leadership of her Board of Directors including its newest members:

- Dr. Jan Northup, President, Management Training Systems, Inc.
- Paul Smiley, Founder and President, Sonoran Technology and Professional Services
- Mark Staudohar, President, ACCENT’ Hiring Group
- Linda Stanfield, CEO, Benjamin Franklin Plumbing
- Victoria Trafton, Owner, Referral Institute of Central Arizona

In addition, asba welcomes David Drennon as its new Vice President of Marketing and Business Development. Drennon comes to asba following over five and a half years providing communications and community relations for the Arizona Commerce Authority/Arizona Department of Commerce. He also brings extensive experience as a news manager for local affiliates 12 News KPNX and ABC 15 KNXV.

The challenges of 2010 brought some stand-out service from asba employees and partners. Recognized for their invaluable contributions, the following honors are given:
- Board Member of the Year: Joe Higgins, Sports Buzz Haircuts and Doug Martin, President and General Manager of Good News Radio Broadcasting (GNRB) in Tucson
- Corporate Partner of the Year: National Bank of Arizona
- Strategic Partner of the Year: Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry
- Volunteer of the Year: (Central Arizona) Lisa Raymond, Deseyner’s Eye Creations and (Southern Arizona) Will Dobbs, Collective Cloud Consulting
- Employee of the Year: Kristen Wilson, Sr. VP, Member Services + Programs
