Local Business Groups Partner in National Small Business Week Event

(Tucson, May 9, 2011) – In support of National Small Business Week, the Arizona Small Business Association (ASBA) has organized a collaborative celebration for Southern Arizona businesses on Tuesday, May 17 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. hosted by Rialto Arts and Antiquities located at 300 E. Congress Street in downtown Tucson. National Small Business Week is recognized May 16 – 20, 2011.
"Our entrepreneurs and small businesses have persevered the current economic times, and this is an opportunity to celebrate that success as well as recognize the key collaboration necessary in the greater Tucson region to keep businesses moving forward,” says Donna Davis, Chief Executive Officer of ASBA. "Now we get to focus on renewed business growth and strengthening the local, regional and state economies necessary for a robust business environment.”
Surveys by the U.S. Small Business Administration show more than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create 60-80 percent of new jobs in the country. With 97% of Arizona businesses classified as small businesses, it is clear job growth will be created within Arizona’s small businesses sector. The networking, business match-making and educational opportunities provided by ASBA and our partner organizations will be instrumental in helping small business owners rebound and emerge stronger.

Co-presenters in the May 17 event include Better Business Bureau of Southern Arizona (BBB), BNI Southern Arizona, Inside Tucson Business, KVOI Radio, NAWBO Tucson, Local First Arizona, Wake Up Tucson, Tucson Hispanic Chamber, Fourth Avenue Merchants Association, Tucson Business Club and the Micro Business Advancement Center (MAC).

Rialto Art and Antiquities Owner Don Martin has partnered with Luke Cusack of the new restaurant A Steak in the Neighborhood, to provide a first-class collaborative networking event. "Enjoy hors d'oeuvres, preview upcoming exhibits at Rialto Arts and Antiquities, win raffle prizes and bring plenty of business cards,” says ASBA Business Development Director Patricia Possert. "This is about creating a space to connect, collaborate and celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit in Tucson. We are delighted to have Donna Davis, ASBA CEO; Joe Higgins, ASBA Board Vice-Chair and Fletcher MccKusker, CEO Providence Corporation share encouraging remarks. Each of these individuals are highly successful entrepreneurs in their own right,” adds Possert.
A cash bar and sales booths by Empire Pizza, On a Roll and HUB homemade ice cream will be available on site. The event is free to ASBA members and members of the co-presenting organizations. To RSVP for this event, or for more information, visit <> or call 520-327-0222.
