TUCSON, Ariz. -- Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords received a national award Thursday.
Giffords was honored by the Arizona Small Business Association's annual Athena Awards. Ten other women were also honored at the luncheon. About 300 people attended the event.
"All of us at the office are really proud that she was recognized in this way, because, ah, it's an award that's given to women of courage, women who inspire other women to go as far as they can go in their career," said Giffords' District Director Ron Barber.
Staffers Ron Barber and Pam Simon, both January 8 shooting victims, accepted the award for Giffords who is still recovering in Houston.
