How To Sleep Like a Leader

Posted By Chris Aird, With Purpose Business Consultants, Monday, April 2, 2018

As a leader within the company or as the top leadership executive, it can be accurately stated that you did not get to that position by only doing what was required of you or through minimal investment of your time.

It is also, safe to say, that through your dedication, determination, drive and sacrifice you have attained to this level of leadership success.

However, it is also important to remember that, as the leader within the organization, that many are dependent upon your continued success. Specifically, it would be your employees, your stakeholders, your family and above all, YOU!

Therefore, it is important to consistently invest in your well-being and one of the best ways to maintain your health, energy and drive is to Sleep Like a Leader.

It may surprise you that a recent survey conducted by the Harvard Business Review indicated that roughly 43% of business leadership surveyed said that they are sleep deprived 4 out of 7 nights a week https://hbr.org/2016/02/theres-a-proven-link-between-effective-leadership-and-getting-enough-sleep.

Consequently, a few important practical tips may be in order to ensure that you receive the adequate rest that you need to maintain your powerful leadership energy, vision and enthusiasm.

Some of those healthy sleeping tips would include:

  • Maintain a consistent bedtime hour.
  • Although keeping current on the events of the day may be necessary, the high-performing executive should detach from the world events at about an hour prior to retiring.
  • If experiencing difficulty going to sleep, check your diet and limit caffeine intake.
  • Indulge in consistent exercise through the course of the week.
  • As much as possible, detach yourself from communication devices at bed-time (cell phones, computers, tablets, etc.).
  • Instruct leadership staff to limit communication when you are “off the clock.”  Perhaps a separate number can be set up for extreme or emergency conversations.
  • Practical advice would include eating lightly at night as well as sleeping on a comfortable bed and in a sleep inducing environment.
  • Utilize homeopathic sounds such as running water or nature sounds available through inexpensive sound devices or listen to soothing music.
  • Take power naps during the course of the day at all possible.
  • Business travel is sometimes necessary – a few tips to manage jet lag may include staying hydrated, scheduling early arrivals, stay active, trying light therapy, etc.

Lead in your own life, take control, good night and sleep well!

PET PLANET Offers Tips to Keep Your Pets Safe During the Holidays

Posted By Kristen Cherry, Pet Planet, Monday, November 14, 2016

Keeping Our Pets Safe This Holiday Season

When planning your Holiday celebrations, here are two ideas to consider to keep your pets safe and healthy:

1.      Tinsel, ribbons, lights and shiny holiday items can cause severe stomach problems if swallowed by your pet.  Leave the lowest branches of your tree free of tempting things that may look like fun for your cat to play with or your dog to eat.

2.      Although brilliant for creating holiday spirit, Poinsettias, Holly, Mistletoe and Chocolate are hazards to our furry companions and can make them extremely sick. In your home, please keep those in safe, out-of-reach areas.

Holiday hustle-and-bustle can really stress your pets.  Be careful with decorations and food to help your pets live healthier, happier and longer lives!

Happy Holidays from PET PLANET . . . Your Pet’s Natural Grocer!

Progress through positive changes

Posted By Carine Dieude, Biostress Imagery LLC, Tuesday, February 17, 2015

Are you waiting for your job, circumstances or people to turn out the way you want? It is very easy to go down the slippery of path of negativity, blame and irresponsibility but it offers no opportunity for solution. Life is unpredictable, demanding and full of pressure, which certainly impact how you view its outlook.

Dwelling on the bad things that have happened or the hurts you felt or the worst case scenarios will only drain you of your energy to be effective. You cannot change your past. You cannot change how people have acted towards you. But you have the choice to take full responsibility for your life and develop the ability to see the up side of life.

Easier said than done! It is an old age question to determine our outlook on life: optimist, pessimist, it is not always clear cut and most of the people goes back and forth depending on the situation. Nonetheless every single one of your emotions, positive or negative, affects your physiology. This doesn't infer you should ignore/repress negative feelings as experiencing them may help you process them and resolve them. However scientific studies suggest there is a direct link between your level of optimism and your level of success and happiness (cf http://biostressimagery.com/guided-imagery-therapy/the-happiness-advantage-the-secret-to-better-work/).

People who are positive and optimistic leave strong impression, advance are promoted faster. They are generally more content and fulfilled, displaying higher energy, self-esteem, an increased performance and productivity. But the greatest advantage of changing your frame of mind is to progress through positive changes and empower yourself in all aspects of your life.
