Dont be that Bot - it can hurt your Business

Posted By Tracelyn Sutton, American Cancer Society, Thursday, August 3, 2017

Dont Be A Lifeless Algorithm

Have you ever wondered how many people on your friend list or followers page aren’t… well… real people? It’s true – with the introduction of bots into social media platforms, it’s become challenging to discern the fake from the real. Bots are pieces of an algorithm designed to behave like real users on a social network; their services can vary from liking all your Facebook posts to gaining you fake followers and much more. Some bots can even chat with you online without you ever realizing – thus the rule to never accept requests from strangers.
So, with all these fake people wandering around the web, how do you prove yourself as a real human? Read on to find out.

Always set the profile picture with a photo of you: The very first thing a person will notice when they see your profile will be your profile picture. A nice smiling picture of you will be far more appealing and believable for them compared to your pet/fictional hero/favorite model. Do keep the settings private according to your comfort zone, but remember that when it comes to displaying pictures, honesty is the best policy.

Timing and posts: Timing is the key when it comes to spotting the bot and the human. Spam bots tweet at all hours of the day and corporate accounts stick to office hours, that is, 8 am to 8 pm, Monday to Friday. A regular human, on the other hand, will post whenever they feel like from 7 am to midnight; if you regulate the timing of tweets, spotting the real person is as simple as pie.

Comment, share, follow, and stay active: People suspect accounts that look as if they’ve been recently opened or have nothing much on them. The more activity there is, the better it looks from the outside.

Have a genuine friend list: If you accept random friend requests from a bunch of strangers (who may, in fact, be bots), guess what the person viewing your account will think. Yep, that’s right – you shall be classified as a lifeless algorithm yourself. Bot accounts can generate up to a thousand friends in the blink of an eye. Therefore, if your account activity, its lifetime, and the people on your friend lists aren’t genuine, it won’t take long for people to figure out what’s going on.

I should have mentioned earlier – this article has an enormous amount of potential to reduce your trust on people that come up on social media. But, you already knew that, didn’t you? Be wary of bots; they may not seem like much, but if one was built to be malicious then you’re in some trouble.

To conclude, keep your account looking real and active, and no one will ever again have the nerve to call you a lifeless piece of algorithm!

Prebuilt Recipes to Help Automate Your Business

Posted By Gabe Salcido, Dogstar Host - Website Design Services and Domains, Wednesday, August 10, 2016
Updated: Thursday, August 11, 2016

ActiveCampaign announces “recipes” — automation workflows you use as a starting point to build automated sales and marketing processes. It’s a huge time-saver and makes building automations easier than ever.

But, wouldn’t it be even better if you could:

  • Import a “done-for-you” follow-up sequence that’s created and optimized by an experienced marketing expert?
  • Leverage the same tested, proven automation workflows that the marketing automation authorities are using?
  • Get an automation built by the developer of an integration that fully leverages the features of both platforms so you don’t have to wonder if you’ve set it up right?

Announcing the ActiveCampaign Marketplace…

Now you can browse a directory of done-for-you automations created by:

  • Leading marketing automation experts
  • Experienced email marketing authorities and
  • The developers of apps that integrate with ActiveCampaign.

Using the Marketplace…

The pre-built automations in the Marketplace are categorized by your business goals:

Clicking into a product listing will bring up more detailed information including an overview of what it does and what its benefits are.

If you have a question about an automation, you can ask its creator in the comments section below each product listing.

Many of the products are available to you free of charge. If you see a free automation or template you’d like to use, you can add it to your account with a single click using the “Add to your account” button.

All automations you have purchased or added through the Marketplace will appear in the “Purchased” category of the Automation Recipe modal that appears when you click “New Automation.”

To import an automation you’ve added to your account through the Marketplace, select it by clicking it and then click “Create.” The Automation Import Wizard will begin taking you through the steps of customizing the automation to match the settings of your account.

As you go through the wizard, you’ll see notes that the creator has added to give you guidance. There is additional product documentation you can access by clicking on “My Purchases” (when you are logged into the Marketplace). From this page, you can also rate automations that you have purchased.

Next week we’ll have a post highlighting many of these automations and their creators. Until then, please feel free to browse the Marketplace and import any automations that seem useful. The creators have put a lot of work into them and we’re very impressed by the quality and usefulness of this first batch of automations.

The Marketplace is another example of how we are making powerful marketing and sales automation processes as accessible and simple as possible.

Now, you have access to a growing, categorized library of automation workflows built by experts. You can import any of these automations with a single click and quickly accomplish specific, measurable results in your business — from increasing revenue to automatically managing contacts.

We’ll continue to find new and innovative ways to make it even easier to use email marketing, marketing automation, and sales automation to make running an efficient, growing business.

Check out the Marketplace now and let us know what you think in the comments!

Making Social Media Work for Your Business

Posted By Patty Hughes, Strategic Marketing Services, Wednesday, June 29, 2016

SUMMARY:

Social media can be the great equalizer for small businesses, allowing them to reach audiences is many more ways than they can with traditional media alone. There are several ways of making social media work for your business.

Only target a few social media channels

There are many fantastic social media networks out there, but that doesn’t mean as a small business you should be on them all!  If you’ve gone through the valuable efforts of creating a small business marketing strategy, your research should have illustrated where your target audience is at. Do the research and find out where the top engagement is for your audience and embrace those channels.

Social media is more than setting up a profile, but please set up a strong profile

It’s amazing how few companies really take the time to create an engaging profile. Take the time to talk about your unique value proposition, what makes you special, what you can offer clients, etc. Do it right.

Reach out and get connected

Now that you’re got your 3-4 great social channels built out, now is the time to start connecting with people and other businesses. Give people and companies a reason to start following or connecting with you and your business.

Share your expertise as well as others

Give people are reason to like, connect or follow your company.  Share great information. Provide articles or other information that your target audience cares about. Do you know what problems your audience are facing?  Share information that address those issues or problems.

Support others on social channels

Unfortunately, many companies don’t take the time to support other companies’ social channels.  Make it a habit to follow other companies and like their content. Write a helpful comment. Actually get engaged with the content other people are writing.

There’s etiquette when it comes to social media

Make sure you understand how each social channel works; each one is very different.  Here’s a handy little list of social media rules to follow

Look at your analytics

Almost every social channel provides analytics so you know how well your channel is performing. Some are fairly basic, but others provide great insights such as Facebook Insights. LOOK at these analytics and make sure you’re taking advantage of the data to post the right content at the right time targeting the right people.

Social media can be powerful for small businesses, but only if you put the effort into making it successful.

Choose a handful that we can truly market through, and do so consistently. Find out where the top engagement is for your audience and embrace those channels.

Your social media platforms are an extension of your marketing efforts. Just like your website, you want to put your best face forward on your social profiles, so do more than simply cut and paste the “About Us” page from your website. Don’t overlook this important step. Do it right.

Reach out and get connected

All You Need to Know About Facebook’s Update: See First

Posted By Michael Arce, Loud Rumor, Wednesday, August 5, 2015

facebook-695108_1280.jpg

Facebook recently added an update to their platform called “See First” - and it’s really cool. This allows people to add their friends, favorite businesses, or public figures to a priority list.

What does this mean? That all those people and businesses on the “See First” list are who they will see first in their News Feed.

This is great for those who want to prioritize their News Feed and filter out the spam. It’s one of many ways that Facebook shows they care about their customer’s experience.

SeeFirst.jpg

So if you are someone who loves health and fitness, you can essentially turn your News Feed into a place that primarily shows nearby gyms, nutrition tips, exercise hacks, and so on. You can customize what you see from who.

Or maybe you use Facebook mainly to stay connected with your family. Add them to your See First list and it simplifies the search. You no longer have to scroll through your News Feed for hours or do individual searches for your relatives to see what’s going on in their lives. They’ll all be in one place - at the top of your News Feed.

But how does this affect businesses?

Well, if you make it onto someone’s See First list… you’ve made it. They’ll constantly be up to date on your business’ most recent blogs, event updates, pictures, and so on. It’s awesome exposure for companies and a great way to maintain close ties with customers.

And so many people turn to social media to find out more about a business these days. For example, 40% of people use Facebook to see information about a company or organization.

So if a potential customer checks out your profile and really likes what they see, there’s a chance they’ll add you to their See First list. And that’s as good as a handshake…

This gives you an awesome foot in the door to connect with them, engage, and really help them with whatever services or product you offer.
