Most likely you've heard of Software as a Service (SaaS), and maybe even Platform as a Service (PaaS), Network as a Service (NaaS) or Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). If you haven't yet heard of Big Data as a Service (BDaaS), Windows as a Service (WaaS), Desktop as a Service (DaaS) or any of the other thousands of common technology or computer terms that either now have - or will have - "as a service" as part of their common usage, you soon will.

Clearly, the technology world is moving toward the "as a service" model, which means the way you implement technology into your business will also change. And, there are some key benefits as to why you should adapt to this change. They range from easy upgrades and cost savings to decreased security and loss risks, the ability to work from anywhere, and more.

With their scalability, accessibility, user-friendliness and affordability, "as a service" models are here to stay and you can expect more and more of the technologies you use or want to use to be offered in this way. Talk with us about how you take advantage of this model now.

The role of IT Managed Services Providers (IT MSPs) is evolving rapidly from tactical business considerations - i.e., saving expense and cutting costs - to strategic issues, such as security and compliance. That's one of the key findings from the 4th Annual Trends in Managed Services study released in June by CompTIA, the world's largest non-profit IT trade association.

Survey respondents reported the top reason their companies turn to MSPs is to improve efficiency and reliability of IT operations. Respondents cited the ability to enhance security and compliance and a proactive approach to maintenance as the 2nd- and 3rd-ranked reasons companies work with MSPs. "Return on investment/cost savings" fell from the 2nd spot in the 2014 report to the 4th position this year.

"This really speaks to the value that the role of the MSP holds in the mind of the end user," Carolyn April told SearchITChannel. April is CompTIA's Senior Director of Industry Analysis and the author of the recent report.

CompTIA researchers queried 350 IT and business professionals in the U.S. about their experiences, decision factors and usage trends when it came to using IT MSP firms. In addition to discovering the increasingly strategic role for MSPs, the results showed an uptick in adoption of managed services at respondent's firms compared to last year's study.

Prepare Now- 2003 Windows Small Business Server End of Life

Posted By Matt Maggiora, TeamLogicIT, Friday, November 27, 2015

If you are a small business owner and are still running on Windows Server 2003, you are not alone. More than a decade after its introduction, millions of small businesses continue to operate on this trusted platform. Unfortunately, this means that there are a lot of business owners out there who are being forced to embrace change now that Microsoft has announced that it will end its support of Windows Server 2003 on July 14, 2015.

If the end of life for Windows Server 2003 affects your business, you don’t have to panic. However, you will have to make some crucial decisions – and you will have to act fast. The process of changing over can take up to seven months or longer.

What This Means

End of lifecycle for Windows Server 2003 means that any protections Microsoft has been offering for this platform will be eliminated. The dozens of security updates they provide annually, any access to the cloud – all of it- gone.

Fortunately, there are several fully-supported servers available to which you can upgrade, most notably Windows Server 2012. Here’s what else you will want to do, as soon as possible, in order to get started on the path to a safe, supported operating system:

Accept that an Investment is in Order

Whether you choose to migrate to a newer server or stay with the 2003 version, you can expect that the end of life for Windows Server 2003 is going to cost you some money – and the cheapest route isn’t necessarily the one you would think it is.

Your first instinct may be to take the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” approach and stick with your 2003 server. However, if you decide to do this, keep in mind that single incident help from Microsoft could cost in the ballpark of $60,000 to $200,000/year. If you store sensitive data, such as the type covered under HIPAA, you will have no choice but to migrate to a supported OS in order to stay compliant under the law.

Of course, you could throw caution to the wind and keep your trusty old server, sans support. This, however, is the costliest of all options as, without Microsoft’s frequent security patches and no cloud access (either through Microsoft or an outside vendor), you are putting all your data, infrastructure and, frankly, your entire business, at a very high risk.

Talk to a Managed Services Provider

There is no sugar-coating it: Planning for, and protecting, your soon-to-be unsupported data is a huge undertaking – even for a seasoned IT expert. There are important decisions to make and many time-consuming steps involved.

If you already have a contract with an MSP, sit down with them as soon as possible to work up a plan to start rolling your date onto a new server. If you don’t have an MSP to turn to, there probably won’t be a better time than now to speak with one. The investment in choosing the best server to support your business long-term – and getting your data moved over correctly – is well worth it.

Embrace Migration

Your best bet is to begin planning your migration to a newer Windows server immediately. While this can seem like a daunting task, it’s also a great opportunity to assess your technology approach, strengthen your infrastructure and modernize your systems.

Outsourcing Your IT Why Everyone Is Doing IT

Posted By Matt Maggiora, TeamLogicIT, Monday, November 16, 2015

Today, Technology & Communication  Infrastructure  is the lifeblood of any business. Team Logic IT makes numerous technologies work more efficiently so you can tackle the important business tasks at hand. Your business is too important not to have experts solving your most difficult technology issues.

Having reliable, versatile systems that operate at high levels is no longer an option, it's imperative. Down time cost real money, headaches and a poor customer experience.

Many small business owners understand the value of outsourcing:

1. ISSUE AVOIDANCE:  You may base your current IT strategy on a ‘break/fix’ scenario. This means that by the time you know there is a problem, your business and staff’s productivity has already been affected and you typically experience prolonged periods of costly downtime. Team Logic IT provides pro-active maintenance and monitoring to avoid issues.

2.COST OF IT STAFF MEMBER - PART OR FULL TIME:  The average annual salary of a reasonably skilled IT staff member is about $55,000 add in employment taxes, benefits ect and you exceed $66,000 or $5,500 per month.  TeamLogicIT comparison: (based on full retail pricing), with consulting services, unlimited helpdesk, remote support, proactive maintenance, full documentation, proactive monitoring and full reporting for 35 workstations and 2 servers with 15 hours of onsite labor each month would cost $2,675 a month.

3. INCREASED STAFF PRODUCTIVITY: You may think that you are saving money by keeping the responsibility for your technology in-house and distributing it internally. The likelihood is your employees are not focusing on their primary roles and are being constantly distracted trying to deal with niggling IT issues which is dramatically reducing their productivity. Team Logic IT offers unlimited help desk support. This allows your employees to focus on what you are really paying them for.

There are many other reason to consider paying a small fee each month to have Team Logic IT manage your Technology

Have an entire IT staff at your disposal for less than $1 a day per workstation. We will manage your servers, switches, data connections, phones and more

Our managed services include:

  • Includes dial in help desk support
  • Server & Network Monitoring / Proactive System Alerts
  • Remote Support

We are living in a digital world and that means a lot of info is out there about us. With great advancement in technology comes great advancement in identity theft and data breaches.

This week, I want to share with you some things to watch out for in your day to day technology use.

Wearable Technology: What Does It Mean for You?
Recent headlines have been replete with data breach stories in the last few years. The number of companies and government agencies that have had their systems hacked is staggering.
