Shine Coffee Will Become Rollover Doughnuts + Coffee

The owners of Shine Coffee and Short Leash Hot Dogs are happy to announce the transfer of ownership of Shine to Short Leash on October 1, 2014 for an undisclosed sum.  Short Leash is firing up a new concept – Rollover Doughnuts & Coffee – which will move into the Shine Coffee buildings on Vernon Avenue.  Short Leash owners – Kat & Brad Moore and Shine owners Laryn & Christiaan Blok have been friends since both owned a food truck version of their current businesses.  They have spent many an evening enjoying local fare while talking shop.  Over the summer (and a few bottles of wine ) the Moores and Bloks hatched a plan to make this transition.  


The Grand Opening of Rollover Doughnuts & Coffee will take place on October 4, 2014. 

Shine Coffee’s owners Laryn & Christaan Blok feel confident in handing off customers to a superb and experienced operation like Short Leash.  The newest concept from Short Leash is sure to be as exciting and delicious as Sit + Stay and Short Leash Hot Dogs food trucks.   The Bloks are looking forward to spending time on their next business venture. Vernon Avenue Pocket Park will continue to be cared for by the Rollover and the Bloks.

SBA's Online Portal Now Accepting 2015 National Small Business Week

PHOENIX - The U.S. Small Business Administration's Arizona District Office is proud to announce that SBA's online portal is ready to accept nominations for its 2015 National Small Business Week Awards,  including the annual Small Business Person of the Year award.

SBA has been following the mantra - Smart, Bold and Accessible in the way the agency conducts business. This is now the third year SBA has been using the online portal submission process, a great and smart improvement from years past. The improved dedicated web portal provides all the guidelines and has made it much easier to submit and track submissions of nominees for National Small Business Week.

Since 1963, National Small Business Week has recognized the outstanding achievements of America's small businesses for their contributions to their local communities, and to our nation's economy. For over 50 years, SBA will continue its tradition in honoring the nation's 28 million small businesses. "Each year the SBA has the honor of spotlighting Arizona winners of our Small Business Week awards in a ceremony that recognizes and celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit and community activism that has long characterized the small business community of our great state," said Robert J. Blaney, the District Director of the SBA in Arizona.  "Over 97 percent of the businesses in the state are small businesses and have proven, year after year, to be the greatest sources of the innovation, jobs and growth needed to fuel Arizona's dynamic economy."

Arizona's past winners highlight the drive, diversity and dynamism of Arizona's small businesses:

The 2014 Small Business Person of the year was Cynthia Miracle Reed - President and CEO of MIRACORP in Mesa. Like so many other small businesses Cynthia started small working from a home bedroom converted to an office. When she won the award last year her business had grown beyond expectations to 122 employees who work in the company-owned 6000 square foot building.

Cynthia's story is more than that of a mom growing a home business into a $7 million company with a nationwide presence. It is also one of a veteran who built upon her training, adapted her experience to the
private sector and put her stamp on a company that pursues excellence in service and corporate citizenship.

In 2013, John Stoncipher, President and CEO of Guidance Aviation in Prescott won the Small Business Person of the Year award. He later received the SBA's highest recognition of National Small Business Person of the Year.

John knew what he wanted to do at a young age and pursued it with life-long persistence and passion. As a young boy growing up in Pasadena, California, John's future was forged as he watched police helicopters fly overhead.  By eighteen, John was certified to fly. By nineteen, with an instructor's certificate in hand, he began teaching others the intricacies of helicopter flight.

In 2015, SBA's National Small Business Week will award small businesses in the following categories:

  • National Small Business Person of the Year (chosen from among state award winners from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Guam)

  • Phoenix Awards (recognizing outstanding accomplishments during disaster recovery)

  • Small Business Prime Contractor of the Year

  • Small Business Subcontractor of the Year

  • The Dwight D. Eisenhower Award for Excellence (recognizes large prime contractors who have used small businesses as suppliers and contractors)
    SBA 8(a)

  • Graduate of the Year (for recent graduates of the SBA's 8(a) Business Development Program)

  • Exporter of the Year

  • Small Business Development Center (SBDC)Excellence and Innovation Award (nominations of SBA-funded SBDC Service Centers)

  • Women's Business Center (WBCs) of Excellence Award (nominations of SBA-funded WBCs)

  • Veterans Business Outreach Center Excellence in Service Award(nominations of SBA-funded Veterans Business Outreach Centers)

  • Small Business Investment Company of the Year

Gainsworth Named LeTip Regional Director of AZ

Jordana Gainsworth was recently named as a Regional Manager for LeTip International. The area she will oversee will be the state of Arizona. She came to LeTip because she appreciates the heart and soul of the business organization and what it's trying to accomplish. What differentiates LeTip from their competition is the vetting process it uses to place members into referral groups. LeTip makes sure that prospective member businesses are not only competent, but also have good reviews before they become part of the organization.

Before coming to LeTip, Jordana practiced traditional Naturopathic medicine in New York, as well as Europe. She has studied BioEnergetic medicine and is currently working on a doctorate in the subject. Her work in the medical field has been with doctors, both here and internationally.

Many experiences in her life have brought Jordana to this point and she is now able to use those experiences to help LeTip members be successful. Being a small business owner herself helps her understand the unique and specific needs of other business owners. Being part of the LeTip team, Jordana will help implement tools to help business owners increase their business as well as instruct them in best practices for marketing.

With many interests in her life, including art, traveling, health, Jordana also has a passion for teaching people to work well together and "play nice." Since that is exactly what LeTip does for local businesses, she will be a great asset to the LeTip International team.
