Justin Piper, General Manager, Chicago Cubs Mesa Spring Training Operations

Justin Piper oversees business activity at the new Cubs Spring Training Facility, including sales, marketing, facility operations and community affairs. He ensures the needs of Cubs baseball management and players are met while treating guests to a best-in-class experience.

Piper joined the Cubs from the Reno Aces Baseball Club, the Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the Pacific Coast League. As executive vice president of business operations, he was responsible for the day-to-day business operations of the team including sales and marketing, guest services, facility operations and serving as Diamondbacks’ liaison. Piper came to Reno after spending more than two years as corporate partnerships manager at Silicon Valley Sports & Entertainment, where he was responsible for new business development for the NHL’s San Jose Sharks, HP Pavilion, SAP Open Tennis Tournament, Strikeforce MMA and other sports and entertainment properties. Piper has previous experience in the Pacific Coast League, as he served as director of ticket sales for the Sacramento River Cats between 2003 and 2006.

Prior to his career in professional sports, Piper was a senior consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton, where he specialized in process analysis and integrated management and technology solutions for the world’s largest corporations and government agencies.

Piper attended Boston College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Operations and Strategic Management. He and his wife, Leigh, recently moved to Mesa with their daughter, Fiona, and son, Graham.


Stefanie Francis, Co-founder and Managing Director, Navigate Research

As a co-founder of Navigate Research, Stefanie oversees the market research division, with a special interest in qualitative research and efficient quantitative survey design. She works with clients to determine the ROI and ROO on investments, effectiveness of sponsorship on target markets, awareness levels among fans and non-fans and the overall impact of the partnership. Additionally, she leads the activation research team which transforms data, industry best practices and creative design into action plans for strategic execution for clients. Her current/active clients include ESPN, Budweiser, USG, Athletico, Wasserman, LG and Southwest Airlines.

In addition to her role at Navigate Research, Stefanie serves on the Board of Directors for the Positive Coaching Alliance, ASU’s Sports Business Association and Chairs INSPIRE, a mentorship program at Florence Crittenton, a Phoenix group home for teenage girls.

A native of Phoenix, Stefanie has a B.S. in Exercise and Sports Science from George Washington University where she competed on their top-25 volleyball team, a M.A. in Leadership Studies from the University of San Diego and a M.B.A. in Sports Business from the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University.

She is also a member of Social Venture Partners, Suns 88, Valley Leadership Class 30, and the Phoenix Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 (2012).

Scott Rovn, Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Phoenix International Raceway

A 20-year veteran in motorsports, Scott Rovn is entering his tenth season with Phoenix International Raceway as Vice President of Sales & Marketing. Rovn’s diverse auto racing resume also includes six years in various positions with International Speedway Corporation, including Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International and Nazareth Speedway (Pa.). His marketing efforts have been honed through a variety of racing series, including the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR Nationwide Series, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, Indy Racing League, and the Grand American Road Racing Series.

Rovn began his motorsports career in 1994 with Straight Arrow, a consumer product company that served as primary sponsor for Bobby Allison Motorsports and its NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team. While at Straight Arrow, Rovn leveraged an at-track entertainment program to help extend Straight Arrow’s retail presence.

Since joining Phoenix International Raceway in May 2004, Rovn has played an integral role in the sales and marketing efforts of two NASCAR Sprint Cup weekends. With the addition of three NASCAR races in April, Rovn has helped lead the charge in selling tickets, sponsorships and growing the sport of NASCAR in the Phoenix market. Through his leadership and direction, PIR has built and maintained solid relationships with key businesses within the Phoenix business community, including Safeway, the Hensley Company, Talking Stick Resort and Casino Arizona.

As an economic leader in the Valley, Rovn has helped position PIR not only with local businesses but also with community organizations such as the Phoenix Regional Sports Commission, and the Greater Phoenix Convention and Visitors Bureau.

A 1992 graduate of Minnesota State University, Rovn resides in Glendale with his two sons, August and Max.
