In an effort to implement some of the important core values of the Healthy Arizona Worksite Program here in our own office, Jason Sealy (Healthy AZ Worksite Program Manager) went around the office Monday morning and asked some of the staff members what they have started to do, or plan to do for ASBA’s Health and Wellness Month. Here is what he gathered:

Robin – engaging in regular morning Zumba for cardiovascular health, has incorporated Kale to her daily smoothie
Kale: Rich in chlorophyll, the blood of plants - enhances oxygenation of the body. Chlorophyll is almost identical to hemoglobin - the oxygen-carrying molecule in our blood. The difference is that it contains Magnesium at its core whereas hemoglobin carries Iron.

Sandi – spinning today, no processed foods, taught tee-ball to grandson over the weekend
"God gave us the gift of life; it is up to us to give ourselves the gift of living well.” -Voltaire

Kristen – apples and berries for breakfast
Coconut Berry Bliss Dip

¼ C (6 T) Coconut Butter

1 C Mixed Berries (fresh or frozen)

In a food processor, combine coconut butter and berries and blend until smooth.

Sarah – cut out wheat products as well as processed foods and engaging in physical activity daily rather than just a few times a week at a fitness center
Processed Foods: If it comes in a box or a bag and has a long list of ingredients, it never was or no longer is real food. It is full of preservatives and fillers and is toxic to the body.

Gabe – running 3 miles every day for cardiovascular health –
Running Walking, Chi Gong, Yoga or Stretching: Daily practices will strengthen your body; bring peace, balance and healing into your life.

Jason – whole/real/ raw foods–
The Incredible Healing Power of Raw, Living Foods
The fastest way to restore wellness is to stop putting into the body the things that have caused the physical problem to develop, and then give the body the nutrients it needs to repair and rebuild itself. The body is self-healing when the imbalance and damage is stopped and proper nutrients provided.

Malnutrition is the basis of all disease
: "Man's body is a living organism, made of living cells, which require living food in order to be nourished and to function properly. When we put cooked food into our body, loaded with contaminants, the body starts to break down. It begins in the very young with colic, rashes, colds, earaches, upset stomachs, swollen glands and tonsils. As the child grows older, it may begin as tooth decay, pimples, the need for eyeglasses, etc. Then as we enter adult life, it becomes arthritis, hypoglycemia, heart attacks, strokes, diabetes and cancers. All this and a multitude of other diseases are unnecessary and is nothing but the result of improper diet and lifestyle!

Today, most people accept cooked food as the normal means of supplying the body with nutrients, not realizing that the living cells of our bodies do not take nourishment from the dead and artificial ingredients found in cooked food. And so, after a typical meal of cooked meat, cooked potatoes, a cooked vegetable and a piece of cooked bread, followed by a cooked sugar desert, the stomach is full and people think they have satisfied the nutritional needs of their body. In reality, they have given their body practically no nourishment. And thus with a full stomach, they are slowly starving their body's cells." Raw Food by George H. Malkmus

Carol – walked 3 miles before work and started day with berries, yogurt and water
Blueberry Smoothie (1 serving)

1 orange, peeled and sectioned

1 green apple

1 cup blueberries, fresh or frozen

2 cups spinach or other dark greens

1 tbs. hemp seeds

Place all ingredients in a blender, add 1 to 2 cups water and process until smooth.
