TUCSON, AZ (October 5, 2010) – The Arizona Small Business Association (asba), a non-
partisan, pro-business organization, has released the results from a recent member survey it
conducted in response to the Tucson City Council’s proposed ½ cent sales tax increase. In July
2010, the Tucson City Council voted 5-2 to include the ½ cent sales tax increase on the
upcoming November ballot (Proposition 400).

asba polled its Southern Arizona membership base of nearly 700 small businesses, which
represents a broad spectrum of company sizes and industries. Members were asked to indicate
their positions on the proposed sales tax increase issue. Of those that participated in the survey,
69 percent were opposed to raising the sales tax; 26 percent were in support; and 5 percent had
no opinion on the issue.

"I think the results reflect how hypersensitive businesses are to any tax increases in this tight
economy,” states asba CEO Donna Davis, "Small businesses are being affected by federal, state
and local tax and regulation changes. The high participation rate in our survey indicates that small
businesses are engaged in the public policy process, as also noted by the number of reservations
coming in to attend the 2010 Public Policy Luncheon series.”

The asba Public Policy Series kicks off Wednesday, October 13 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the
Sheraton Tucson Hotel & Suites featuring Gabrielle Giffords, Congresswoman District 8; followed
by Jesse Kelly, Congressional Candidate District 8 (October 20) with the final luncheon (October
27) promising to deliver stimulating debates on Propositions 400 and 401. Participants in the
October 27 luncheon include Ronald Shoopman, President, Southern Arizona Leadership Council;
Tom Prezelski, "No on Proposition 401” chair; Shaun McClusky, spokesperson for "No on Prop
400” and Caitlin Jensen, Campaign Manager, Keep Tucson First. For tickets and information on
